Illinois has a variety of different and very beautiful landscapes. We are so lucky in Sullivan, IL to have the breathtaking Lake Shelbyville right in our own backyard. Boating, Fishing, and Birdwatching Lake Shelbyville

Of course, we’re going to start with the lake. Lake Shelbyville provides many choices for activities during the summer. On a nice day, you’ll see pontoon boats, motorboats, and even an occasional sailboat. In addition to boating, Lake Shelbyville is also one of the top fishing spots in the Midwest. The lake is stocked with walleye and sauger as well as catfish and largemouth bass.

There are plenty of things to do along the shore, too. Hiking and biking trails meander around the lake and its surroundings, offering some beautiful scenery. Have you ever been bird-watching? Hundreds of bird species call Lake Shelbyville home, and it’s also a refuge for migrating waterfowl. You may even see the resident bald eagles.

Hiking, Biking, and Exercise

There are a plethora of trails in the Sullivan area. There are plenty of biking and hiking options available at Camp Camfield located at County Road 1100N. The Chief Illini Trail is also an excellent option for biking and hiking. It is a registered national recreation trail and you can start your journey at either Eagle Creek State Park or Lone Point Recreation Area.

Tabor Park is a fabulous place to jog or hike, with exercise stations along the trail. This park is handicapped accessible and also offers picnic areas. You can even try your hand at disc golf. Tabor Park is located off of Cottontail Lane in Sullivan.

Photography

Do you like to capture nature at its prettiest? Try the Okaw Bluff Trail for some excellent photo opportunities. This trail takes you to a bluff overlooking the lake and has two photography stands. You can find this trail at the entrance of the Okaw Bluff Group Camp at 62565, 865 IL-32 in Sullivan.

Agritourism

Fall is just around the corner so start making plans to visit the Great Pumpkin Patch where you can choose from 300 varieties of pumpkins, gourds, and squash. Enjoy the welcoming environment of Amish Country and try some baked goods while you’re there. The farm is located at 1749 CR 1900 N in Arthur.

Another agritourism destination worth the drive is Okaw Valley Orchards where you can try homegrown apples, peaches, and plums as well as fresh cider. The orchard is open from mid-July through November and is located at 724 CR 1750 North in Sullivan.
